Last year, my friend Cal designed a Seed Pack for the Hudson Valley Seed Library. There was an exhibition here in New York City of all the artists who designed packs that year, and I went to mingle and hang with Cal. It was fun! So, when Cal sent me the call for entries this year, I jumped at the chance. I missed the gallery opening last weekend since I was still teaching at Penland, but the packs are now live on the site, and will be available for purchase on December 1st, which is soon (crazy, I tell you). Here's a link to the Danvers Carrot seed pack I designed.

Gathering.....
There's a lot of gathering going on here in the studio lately. I'm researching a bunch of upcoming projects. That doesn't always result in a lot of pictures to show here on the blog, but this weekend, some more tangible gathering happened.
Katy and I drove north to the Hudson Valley in search of apples, and picked......raspberries! The price per pound for u-pick apples was expensive. Way more than we would pay at our local co-op. But, the raspberries were hard to resist, so we picked a few small boxes. Enough to make the world's best hot oatmeal for two or three days. October's here!

Springtime in Brooklyn
For the most part, I am loving living in Brooklyn. We were lucky to find a great apartment with room for all that we do, but I miss the back porch we had in Chicago. Around this time each year it felt like our home grew by one room and we spent all our time out there- eating breakfast, lunch and dinner out there most days, and spending most mornings waking up by watering the plants. It was a great space.
Flash forward to this spring and I'm too stubborn to give up completely on a little garden to take care of- I've moved into this tiny little (fire escape) space outside my studio window and planted snap peas, sweet peas, zinnias, bachelors buttons and basil (some are waiting inside until it's warmer.)
I'm not sure how realistic keeping this little plot up will be but it's worth a shot.
What are you planting? If you've got your own makeshift garden or a real live backyard, I'd love to see what you're working on- leave a link to share. Wishing you a sunny spring weekend!

Sketchbook Friday...Sneak Peak
Here's a little sneak peak of what I've been working on for the new printed sampler. Slowly, slowly, I'm drawing up the new design. I've been swamped in the studio lately, getting ready for a show that I am in at Northern Illinois University at the end of August. Every spare moment I have has been spent on the back stitch, as I carefully fill in all those lines I laid out for myself, which isn't really as bad as it sounds, considering I'm working directly in front of my air conditioner and it's currently 95 with one thousand percent humidity in Chicago. I like repetition, and I hate, and I mean h.a.t.e. it when it's hot out, so I'm a happy camper. I'll show you pictures of that progress on Monday. Have a great weekend!
