Working hard, everywhere.....

As you may remember, I moved my studio from my home to a new space in Brooklyn a few months ago.  This change was so huge, and I love getting up every morning and walking to the studio.  My studio is nestled amongst lot of other artists, and I have a bunch of great studio mates, including Christine Vasan, who is there with me most everyday and who keeps me motivated.  After two years of working alone, I love having a co-worker who keeps me honest!

Next week, I am excited to say that my former assistant from Chicago, Angela Morano, will be here helping me out in the studio for five days.  She is amazing, AMAZING, and I feel so lucky that she is coming for a visit.  Her hat business is booming back in Chicago, and she has been teaching hat workshops to high school students as well as at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.  She is the feistiest, funniest, most hard working person I know, and I can't wait to hang out with her for a week in my studio.   I've got some big plans for those five days, and I can't wait to get started.

Here's a picture of my tiny little home studio.   After moving the regular studio out last Spring, we converted that old space into a guest room/den.  But, I still needed a little space to keep a few embroidery supplies, so I turned my great-grandmother's writing desk into a nighttime stitching studio.  It sits right next to my favorite easy chair.  Most nights, you can find me sitting there working on one project or another while Katy and I watch baseball.

Why, you might ask, am I working all day and all night?  Well, in May of this year, I signed a book contract with STC Craft/Melanie Falick Books.  So, I've been hard at work on a bunch of things that you'll have to wait until winter of 2015 to hear more about.   I am beyond thrilled to be working with Melanie, and I feel so proud to be on her roster, which includes so many of my favorite authors and books.    I'll tell you more when I can.  In the meantime, thanks for your patience as this blog sits a bit neglected.
