Three reasons to love Brooklyn......

There are lots of reasons that are easy to find to not love Brooklyn so much.  It's crowded, it smells bad in the summer, it's pretty noisy a lot of the time.  But man, there are a lot of reasons to love it too.  My upstairs neighbor Ruth told me once that New York City is like a relationship, and that there are love periods and hate periods, and in between periods. In the summer when it's 100 degrees and I am slave to my air conditioner that is belching the stink of the street into our living room, I'm ready to move to California, literally spending every waking minute trying to figure out how to move our life westward.   But today? In the snow?   I'm in a love period.  Here are three reasons why....

Things left on stoops, free for the taking, that remind me of my Grandma's Cottage......
Recycling tied up in brown strings that make me think of Julie Andrews and her favorite things....

Details everywhere, like this recessed handle to the basement trap door of my favorite Ramen Restaurant.....

  1. Like you, there are things that I really hate in my neighborhood, but of course, there are more things to love than to hate. So, I would rather mind the things that make me happy than put my mind on insignificant things. :) Well, during summer, I just love to stay in my room, turn on the air condition, and enjoy a movie marathon. It may look boring, but I’m contented with that because I’m away from the heat. :D

  2. That's really how it should be. Just focus on the beautiful things rather than contemplating on the negative. Doing the latter will only worsen the hot temperature on a summer day. Like Darryl, I'm not a beach bum and I don't like much enjoying the heat of the sun, so it's either I stay at home and do other stuff or go to the mall and enjoy unlimited air conditioning there.

  3. Yeah, summer in NY is hard to tolerate without the help of your friendly A/C. Fortunately, I don’t experience the stink part too much, or at least in the unit I’m staying at right now. But the energy of the place of the city is enough to keep me from leaving. :)
