Modern Inventions...

Yesterday, when I was going through a big pile of papers and paper dolls, I found this little book strap, and it reminded me of a story.  Just before my Grandma died, we were out for a drive together and passed by a school.  She said "you know something your generation really figured out?"  I waited with curiosity to hear what she would say, considering all that had happened in her ninety years.  "Backpacks"she said.  Backpacks?  Of all the things, she was struck by backpacks?  Isn't that nuts?  It's hard to imagine walking to school without one, isn't it?  She told me that her coat had a hole worn in it by the books rubbing against the wool as she walked to school everyday.  Then she told me about the necessity of finding a cute boy to carry your books.   Of all the inventions that rolled out from 1923 until 2013, I for one did not know that backpacks would have made such a lasting change and impression.

  4. Just reading this blog post now and it made me think of a similar statement my grandmother made to me, only for her it was ballpoint pens! So much clean and easier to use than ink wells and pen nibs, she said.
