I walked around the Park Avenue Armory with my mouth hanging open this afternoon- flummoxed at the sheer scale of this exhibition. Red and white together are one of my favorite color combinations- and there, at this six day show (go today!) are no less than 651 pieced, appliqued, and embroidered quilts all made of turkey red fabric and thread, and all from one collector. Can you imagine? If you're in New York this weekend, you really must see this free exhibit on the Upper East Side. If you're anything like me, it'll blow your mind. I took a ton of photographs, and here are my favorites.....
A book about the quilts is forthcoming. I can't wait to get my hands on it. For better pictures than mine, check out this link with a video interviewing the designers of the exhibit at the end. Holy Cow!
Thanks for sharing these photos Rebecca. It looks like it was an awesome show. The fact that they all belong to one collector is mind boggling.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Red and white together is one of my favorites, too. Too bad I live on the wrong coast, would love to see the exhibit. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteall turkey red? really?
ReplyDeleteReally. Unbelievable. I am crazy busy this week, but I think I can't not go again. It is so good.
ReplyDeleteis was so amazing right??? So glad to see it the install was just gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteDid I read that all those quilts were made by the same woman who had them all? I think I did. Just breathtakingly beautiful. Wish I lived in NYC so I could have seen this exhibit!
ReplyDeleteNo no- they were COLLECTED by one woman over the course of her life. Wouldn't you love to see her house?!
